The problem with BitCoin is that it isn't backed by anything like government currency. American currency is guaranteed to be a certain value by the American government but there is no real entity to back up the value of bitcoins.

It's a shame how someone's life can be valued based on how much money they have. Money is going to lead to the downfall of our species if we don't switch to a better source of trade and free up resources. Any continuation of money will just cause more issues. We all live on the same planet here, we need to watch out for each other.

I prefer to use cash for certain purchases, particularly at small businesses because it keeps them from having to pay fees and keeps more money local as oppose to paying it to some huge corporation.

I'm all for alternative currencies like BitCoin, and for that matter, free banking.  Why should governments monopolize the production of money?

What is #Money ?

Money is also an economic good and its value also varies depending on the supply and demand of it. Money is worth what you can purchase with it, if there is a scarcity of food, in order for you to not to die out of starvation you will give more money for a lower amount of food.

In that scenario, not only food increased its value, but also money decreased its own value. People do not eat money, they eat what money can buy for us, and if money cannot buy anything then its value is nil. The Demand and Supply of money is what fixes its value.

I think since bitcoins are a commodity rather then a currency, they should be used similarly to gold, as gold by banks is used to generate physical money so should bitcoins be used to generate digital money i.e Credits, this would mean everyone in the world would be able to be given a quota of say 200,000-300,000 per year and prices for resources such as food and other necessities could be priced low, say around 10-20 Credits per food item, luxuries can be anything from around 500 Credits or more depending on a limit provided by the bitcoin banks, as to insure that private companies such as Apple or Microsoft or Sony etc can't price their products above the limit, to make sure they are available to all, but stocks remain available and still be controlled, and maintained, since Credits will be a digital currency all legal products and services will be purchased online and obviously recorded, as would be necessary, as a security measure, so it would be impossible to purchase any illicit products online since they would either be blocked or recorded as illicit and the individual buyer will be fined/have removed a set amount of Credits from their personal account, since all transactions will go through regulated bitcoin banks to be confirmed, big business and privately owned small business can have access to higher amounts of credits but will still have a limit of say maybe several millions if necessary, ever individual with an account will have their limit per year but can of course acquire more Credits, if necessary or, if you have a service to offer, of which will be compensated, with Credits, this is a method for the future, our current method of payment is outdated and slow, and can never to suit the digital age, it wasn't made for that, numbers in our account have no value whatsoever, only because they are accepted by our banks upon transaction, they're no more valuable than the electrons that constitute them, bitcoins and things like it, are well suited for the times and the future, they are, like gold, a commodity of which money is generated, if we use bitcoin as the means to give value to Credits as currency, we can use gold for more important uses, medicine, technology, agriculture…. endless amounts of Credits can be generated, with no chance for debt for anyone, since it would be universally accepted, everyone would be given them, everyone can have life of productivity and prosperity. This is the method governments should use if they want to regulate bitcoins, any regular citizen has no reason to use them for anonymity if you use them to purchase legal services, it's pointless and defeats the original purpose, only criminals need online anonymity, all we need is assurance that we won't watched, that out right to privacy won't be broken, that our communications won't be intercepted, if you have nothing to hide, to have nothing worry about. Banks don't want this because they believe they fall, then they should be the ones adopting bitcoin and establishing Credits, to all people, this would also ensure that all those people who will be replaced by autonomous robots will have a means to live their lives, and all those who can't work can still live.

guyoflife April 19, 2016 - 11:45 AM

Don't worry about money and just create a world where everyone just does good for everyone else. Resources are infinite. If we have a certain number of people everyone will have enough. You just have to let go of the beliefs that say otherwise.

you want to know just how valuable money is? then find out the cost to stay alive and never die. never grow old never get sick. money has ABSOLUTELY NO VALUE. humans just need to learn how to SHARE. it is just that simple. but that is too hard to understand. Share? you mean being equally just to other humans? oh no. that's a problem. let us just use money to deprive ourselves and praise those who have more than we do. too bad maggots don't veiw corpses the same way. no matter how much money you have you will stink at DEATH. HAPPY MONEY CHASING!

I am from Canada and I will tell you YES, our money does smell like maple syrup, but only if you warm it up, because that releases the smell. It smells lovely like a room of freshly made pancakes with sugary syrup on them. DONT TASTE the money because… well, that's just common sense.

Fiat money = Bitcoin. In the sense that people decide how much there is.

When currency isn't linked in to the overall value of everything, how much things cost is pretty much determined by people. I think long term money will be pointless once people find ways to make products more available and use better strategies to develop products.

Based on a video on how fiat money works, what I heard is they want people to have just enough to live, but not so much that they stop working. Sounds a little like slavery to me. I get it people need to do things to keep things moving forward and to give some people a reason to keep helping out. But unless we aim to get to a place where a system like this isn't needed, then I think a whole new system of distribution is needed.

What I mean is we should be aiming to create a world where people don't have to work so hard or even at all and the world keeps moving forward just fine. So more technology to replace simple jobs, and more giving goods to the poor and needy. Pay people for the data you collect from data mining, and observing the patterns people have, as in if someone plays a game or watches a TV show, or what ever they're taking time to give feed back and spread information about this, they are doing advertising to an extent. So people should get something back from simply taking part in society and respecting society, rather than just been expected to respect society. So basically people get products and goods or right now an universal income for being a good sport as it where, encouragement to want to help society, not just expecting people to do this.

Yes . gold. My precious……

Zlatan Ibrahimovic October 7, 2018 - 4:11 AM

money is valuable because if it is exists that means someone out there in the world is obligated to work for it.

it's because when money is created by a person thru a bank, so is debt created to their name therefore anyone holding that dollar has a guaranteed by the law service from the people who created it making the paper worth something.

note: money is not created by the banks thats a common misconception the reality is the PEOPLE create the money banks just say how much can people create. search up mathematically perfected economy.

Aaron Pharaoh December 6, 2018 - 11:46 PM

The concept of money is increasingly making my head spin. As society has moved away from a gold standard and into the credit era, it gives even less worth to what money is. We just get some numbers on a screen or statement from our employer that tells us how much value we have. We run those numbers down based on what we swipe to buy and then repeat. What if someday there is a crash and everyone's virtual numbers on their accounts go to zero? And just like you can't eat a dollar or a coin or a credit card, you can't eat a bar of gold or silver either. It's all just a silly concept we are automatically signed up for. For me, thinking about the concept and value of money is like trying to think about the vastness of the universe or the infinity of time. I can't quite grasp it.

Jay Spaulding January 21, 2019 - 9:30 PM
