United Nations Secretary General slams 'grotesque greed' of oil and gas companies – BBC News

by Moin Uddin Ahmed Tipu

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for oil and gas companies to face special taxes.

His comments came as surging energy prices sparked by the war in Ukraine push industry profits to new highs. Mr Guterres said it was “immoral” for firms to be profiting from the crisis.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February has worsened a global shortage of oil and gas, disrupting access to oil and gas from Russia – a major supplier – and driving prices higher.

These obscene profits are due in no small part to externalized costs and government support, usually in the form of tax breaks.

Well, of course. Any story that does down the fossil fuel industry, that has lifted the entire world out of poverty, will be peddled by the BBC.

but sir governments are working for these companies and when politicians finish their career in government they get hired by same companies so how that could work ? we need body that oversee government and body upon body to tackle corruption and greed in each level .
