The UK’s failure to do more to stop Covid spreading early in the pandemic was one of the country’s worst public health failures, a report by MPs says.

The government approach – backed by its scientists – was to try to manage the situation and in effect achieve herd immunity by infection, it said.

This led to a delay in introducing the first lockdown, costing thousands of lives, the MPs found.

How did the UK government’s early response to the pandemic go so wrong?

Newsnight’s David Grossman reports. Emily Maitlis joined by:
– Fran Hall from the campaign group Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice UK
– Former cabinet minster Rory Stewart
– Conservative MP Aaron Bell
– Government adviser Professor Thomas House

I'll forgive Johnson for one thing : the government's slow response to introduce measures for mask wearing is understandable given that the World Health Organisation initially cast doubt on their effectiveness.

What is leadership? Who is accountable? The adviser or leader made the decision? If leader have no accountability? We might have made a wrong decision in leader selection.

I'm one of those who sleeps in hospital regarding breathing difficulties and
They had gave me injections into the abdomen without telling me what these injections were, and so far the hospital is still evading explaining what was given to me at that time.
I submitted a complaint to the hospital two months ago, asking for an explanation of what was given to me, and so far they are procrastinating in explaining.

Usually, these slimy buggers, bounce back quicker than this – but with the public, soon to be able to digest the findings of the report, it was best that he were far away.

The badly failed U.N. is JUST the place for failed public servants.

Hancock will be able to enhance their failure rate – he will "set targets". (He needs to "BECOME" one!)

Talking of "far away" – now that the report is being inspected by "ministers" – where's Boris?????

The Press should not be free to tell lies. This not freedom for the people, but a tyranny over their minds and souls. Much humbug is talked on this subject. What is press freedom? In practice it means the right of a dew millionaires to corner newspaper shares on the stock exchange and to voice their own opinions and interests, irrespective of the truth or of the national interest.
