The EU's Water Framework Directive 2000 has contributed to flooding in recent years. By reclassifying dredged river silt as hazardous and forcing its disposal to landfill, it can no longer be used, as was traditional, to create levies which worked to contain flood water. Mainstream media lie by omitting key information.
