Supermassive Black Holes May Be Lurking Everywhere in the Universe

“A near-record supermassive black hole discovered in a sparse area of the local universe indicate that these monster objects – this one equal to 17 billion suns – may be more common than once thought, according to UC Berkeley astronomers.”

Supermassive Black Hole Found in Unlikely Cosmic Backwater

“One of the biggest black holes ever found sits in a cosmic backwater, like a towering skyscraper in a small town. Astronomers have spotted a supermassive black hole containing 17 billion times the mass of the sun-only slightly smaller than the heftiest known black hole, which weighs in at a maximum of 21 billion solar masses-at the center of the galaxy NGC 1600.”

Supermassive Black Holes May Be More Common Than Anyone Imagined

“Scientists have discovered a supermassive black hole that may be the biggest ever spotted – and its location in a ho-hum group of galaxies suggests that cosmic monsters like this one might be more common than astronomers previously thought.”

The incorrect graphical depiction of the event horizon annoys me immensely. As she says, the event horizon is the black sphere, not whatever distance outside of it.

The graphic is totally wrong, the 'event horizon' should all be black… since that's the region light cannot escape. It's effectively as 'within' the black hole as you can get (In fact technically there is no inside the black hole, as the anything beyond the event horizon in spacially non-existant, but that's a totally different topic I suppose).

The depiction of the event horizon is incorrect. The black circle is representative of an event horizon, the whirling matter around the horizon is the accretion disk. It’s unimaginable to think about 8x Pluto’s orbit being the diameter of this 17 billion solar mass event horizon. Pretty awesome! This ladies accent is fine, I’m sure she speaks more languages than most of us.

The black hole their talking about is S5 0014+81 its the largest black hole ever known in our universe, its 12 billion light years away, its record is 40 billion times more mass than our sun its also,17 billion times larger than our sun its about 13 billion times larger than the biggest galaxy ever known, the galaxy is name ic 1101,the black hole can suck that galaxy in easily so,if it did*already has a nickname* it is “THE DESTROYER OF WORLDS”that is all the information i know about this black hole

Kinda fun that Supermassive hole isnt the last they talking about these days. It seems like they call some Ultra-massive black holes. And they even more huge than Supermassiv black holes.
