‘The Iron Ring was a farce’: Why didn’t Ontario better prepare long-term care homes for the 2nd wave

by News Update

For months, health experts were warning of a second, deadly wave of COVID-19 and that long-term care homes in Ontario were vulnerable. But more residents died in the second wave than the first – an unthinkable tragedy that was largely avoidable, health experts say.

The New Reality investigates how LTC homes were set up to fail when the virus struck again.

Carolyn Jarvis reports.

We were too concerned about offended people and apologizing. Canada needs a federal election!

In the year 2021, that's what Lord Gollum writes on his protest sign: "WHERE'S THE RING?"

The vaccine has not been been approved by any regulatory governmental agency with oversight such as the FDA.
The vaccine has “emergency use authorization” which means governments rely on the data and claims from the pharmaceutical company and NOT a 3rd party regulatory governmental oversight agency like the FDA.

WHAT IS EMERGENCY USE AUTHORIZATION?
Under section 564 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act), when the Secretary of HHS declares that an emergency use authorization is appropriate, FDA may authorize UNAPPROVED medical products or UNAPPROVED uses of approved medical products to be used in an emergency to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions caused by CBRN threat agents when certain criteria are met, including there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives.

They don't vote, or few do.

Bobby Daniel May 1, 2021 - 5:30 PM

Keep voting for your tax rebates and things like national daycare and see how much worse it gets. Our economy is crashing due to decades of neglect and greed. Non of us hold ourselves accountable for voting for ourselves.

Day 1 should've made every ltc home a small hospital. Like same precautions. Bring in nurses. Idk. We basically told our seniors to F off and die.

Derek Currie May 1, 2021 - 5:37 PM

Don't like defending politicians but it's funny how Trudeau allowed plane loads of people from India and Ford takes the blame and the rest of us are racists .

Sounds like the Ford Government has blood on their hands. Between LTC and the School fiasco, there shouldn’t be a Ontario Conservative MPP re-elected in 2022.

Class action suit a trend ontario seems to have if I were other provinces I'd be concerned about what goes on in this province over and over

Wearing the same gloves? 20 years ago we had to change our gown to visit the hospital. This is a training issue, what medical professional thinks wearing the same ppe all day is safe? None should.

Oliver Furtado May 1, 2021 - 6:11 PM

Planes arrive from over seas is a federal issue Trudeau failed but let’s blame Ford funny how that’s works maybe numbers wouldn’t be as high if Trudeau would of just stop flights

Uncle Maple May 1, 2021 - 6:11 PM

Re-opening closed wings in existing hospitals would have been cheaper than retrofitting a sports plex. And those beds would still be there for the next wave, and the next pandemic.

Private Long Term Care homes in Ontario are guaranteed money making operations. What "home" has hundreds of residents and few caregivers? They are actually "institutions" which I would NEVER want to live in. They need to be torn down, redesigned and inspected regularly without PRIOR notification. Hefty fines and shutdowns for ignoring regulations. Throwing in an air conditioner here and there, recruiting PSW's from the Philipinnes for less than minimum wage and adding 300,000 beds are ridiculous solutions. Don't you have to obtain certification to become a PSW? What are they learning… common sense should be included in the course. Ford prioritized "a buck a beer" instead of putting money into LTC… no votes there!

Some forty years ago these folks tacitly approved the execution of millions of men and women. These victims are not present to defend the vulnerable today. We are simply reaping what we have sown.

Sad to know that the Ontario government had no plan to protect long-term residents from COVID-19

Dan Fielding May 1, 2021 - 7:42 PM

No doubt. Here they are whining about these long time systematic problems, but they are only saying something now? Idiots.

Was nothing but death camps for the seniors … Who really gives a dam .. Great way to get rid of the old and weak.. Will never trust the government…

anippygirl May 1, 2021 - 8:27 PM

Speaking from exp, If there were an influenza outbreak, you couldn't enter that facility with a bulldozer!!!! In otherwards, No Entry, Unless you were a care provider…This Is/was PROTOCOL. TO PROTECT RESIDENCES PERIOD! Until No damn cases were in that care home. UNDERSTAFFED/OVERWORKED PER CARE . THE FIRST CASE OF COVID IN ANY OF THE CARE FACILITIES SHOULD HAVE FOLLOWED THE PROTOCOL..ANY OUTBREAK …NO DAMN ENTRY!!!
