If the octopus' meticulous care only yields an offspring of 2 once in her life, each mother (on average) would only produce one daughter. If that's true, that would mean that the population wouldn't be able to grow, and each female octopus dying or being perpetually single would move the species towards extinction. This seems an unlikely survival strategy.

Is the octopus destined for natural extinction?

Elephant baby = 250 lbs
Blue Whale baby = 3 fucking tons (roughly 6500 lbs)

Talk about DAD AFRICAN BULLFROGS on fathers day. They were on BBC Life and one male will stay behind to watch after ALL of the other parents tadpoles, creating canals whenever the pools start to dry up. Very cool.

VisualKai May 13, 2013 - 11:33 PM

I'm 19 and still with my mom :D 3 (I'm cool with this)

The whole Human thing is entirely dependent on the person. Plenty of human mums are still aborting their babies.

Batmanageable May 14, 2013 - 2:48 AM

You can't even spell would correctly.

Neal Shah May 14, 2013 - 7:15 AM

The smart person would have worked out by now that sometimes people have to abbreviate words since youtube only allow 500 words in the comments. Now since you are clearly not one of those smart people, you shouldn't really go around correcting others

Batmanageable May 14, 2013 - 8:38 AM

Usually when I go over the limit I just write a two part reply.

But I'ma justa stupid!??!?!

Has I sposed ta no?!???!

Neal Shah May 14, 2013 - 5:49 PM

Well who gives a fuck what YOU do when you go a few characters over the limit, you weren't the one writing the comment, I was, and I abbreviate words to fit them in. Deal with it!
Just because you do it your way, it doesn't mean that the whole fucking world has to do it your way too.
(… and i have no idea what you are trying to achieve by pretending to be stupid at the end of your comment there btw. Was that meant to be sarcasm or comedy or something, because it really was a pathetic attempt).

Batmanageable May 15, 2013 - 2:27 AM

I give a fuck what I do because it never crossed my mind that you would abbreviate, this is because 'I' never abbreviate.

Just because I do it my way, means that I think in my way.

Yes, that was satire at the end there, and insulting what wasn't supposed to be funny makes you look pretty stupid.

I was just getting the point across that I am not stupid, by using satire to disarm your insult.

Ok Cool May 16, 2013 - 3:38 AM

What's a mom?

Batmanageable May 17, 2013 - 3:23 AM

Sinister MJ June 15, 2013 - 8:28 PM

Yeah, thought the same. Overall see mammals carry out the biggest babies.
"After about a year inside its mother's womb, a baby blue whale emerges weighing up to 3 tons (2.7 metric tons) and stretching to 25 feet (8 meters)."

Diana Vasquez December 5, 2013 - 10:36 AM

My Italian textbook has a reading about how in Italy it's the tradition to stay with mom at her house until the son or daughter gets married, at around 30 years old. These are called "mammoni" or "mammone" for singular. So 18 years is the average for the US, but other countries have other traditions when it comes to sticking to your parents.

Just Digital January 18, 2014 - 7:08 PM

What did you say? I'm almost 21 and still living with my mom… (so much for stereotypical thinking)

EvilDan May 13, 2014 - 8:48 PM

Daniel Toma April 16, 2016 - 5:39 AM

incorrect statement at 2:09. 250 lbs is nowhere near the world's heaviest baby. Newborn blue whales are 20 tons (40,000 lbs), which is 160 times as heavy as a newborn elephant
