Taking Breaks Makes You Work Better

by Moin Uddin Ahmed Tipu

Stopping and taking a break actually increases your efficiency in the long run. As Anthony explains, focusing on one thing for too long actually slows us down… we need to mix it up!

DNews is a show about the science of everyday life. We post two new videos every day of the week.

I'm amazed Anthony doesn't get as many compliments on his appearance as Laci does.

Hm, you know, I've always taken breaks when I do stuff subconsciously. No wonder I can usually work better when I do. Those jackasses that tell you work nonstop without a break can just f*ck off.

Oh I always questioned the lack of breaks in Jr. High (Middle School) and High School. Study hall doesn't count when you are forced to do something the entire period. >.>

It's like you just tapped into my brain! I'm taking breaks in between working on my assignment for German class! Or maybe i'm just pro-crastinating :/

April Rants January 17, 2014 - 9:37 AM

I already knew this. You work without breaks you will naturally procrastinate and do a worse job than if you took little breaks during your day.

Victus January 17, 2014 - 9:57 AM

So… how long should you go in between breaks?

Aaron Sacks January 18, 2014 - 2:21 AM

I new about this for a long time but it never worked for me. I find that when I take a break and go back to the task at hand I'm worse at it and more a lot more distracted.

This is like my number 1 excuse for procrastination ._.

i wish someone who works for management, the senate, or department of labor here in the Philippines would implement or standardize this across the nation. :)

Interesting video; taking smart breaks can be necessary! – I talk about this w/ a parenting twist on my channel a bit in a video on raising my little guy to be purposeful + know when to take breaks. Check it out if intrigued – @
