See Brittney Griner's reaction as sentence is read

by News Update

Two-time Olympic medalist and seven-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner was found guilty in a Russia court of drug smuggling with criminal intent. Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges last month in what her lawyers say was an attempt to take responsibility and receive leniency. Griner was sentenced by the court to 9 years of jail time with a fine of 1 million rubles (roughly 16,400 USD), judge Anna Sotnikova of the Khimki city court said #CNN #News

Ban all Russian athletes. Sanction these judges and families, shamefully justice from these criminal judges.

Griner trashed America. Went to Russia many times. She is not in racist America. Good for her. May she enjoy her time.

This woman is worth millions and millions of dollars and yet continue to go to a hostile country to make money when she did not have to. That's all fine and well but to bring drugs into that country knowingly or unknowingly is stupid and she deserves everything she gets here. Play a stupid game when a very stupid prize.

This is pretty tough for a vape pen and some carts. But people have to understand Russia is at war, they are killing women and children with impunity, you think they give a f–k about Griner? Its all political, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong stuff. The best we can hope for now is if Russia agrees to a prisoner swap, but they may not even wanna do that just to punish America publicly

Commit a crime in another country, expect that county's judgement. Simple!

A russian court honestly is no court at all, and so carries little to no authority

What is extraordinary is how Americans are so two-faced and hypocritical. We cage nonviolent "criminals" for years and years at a rate higher than anyone else in the world. Why the hell is everyone so upset at a foreign country's penal system when ours is more harsh, less humanitarian, less widespread? How many black people had life sentences for small amounts of crack or some other drug?

What a horrible sentence. Plenty examples, when they give out less on their equivalent of a manslaughter charge.

she has to take responsibility , she brought drugs into a foreign country

Karma Geddon August 4, 2022 - 10:16 PM

Her "crime" was a simple mistake. She wasn't a drug smuggler, no intent to import & distribute illicit drugs. Unfortunately human error very often leads to legal problems, injury and death. And unfortunately she can't be traded out for the Russian prisoner, as that would set a wicked precedent which Russia would absolutely exploit. We also can't expect a single drop of JUSTICE, transparency, mercy from a tyrannical bloodthirsty government currently waging a near-world war.
