Sajid Javid mocked by the Vice Chair of Royal College of GPs over no-show

by News Update

Mr Javid last night unveiled plans to name and shame doctors that fail to deliver enough face-to-face appointments. But amid anger he pulled the plug on plans to attend a GP conference today. Dr Michael Mulholland, the vice chairman for professional development at the colege, announced the change in the schedule to a laughing conference hall. Unfortunately we have one change to the programme. The Secretary of State for Health for England is unable to join us today either in person or by video link. Sajid Javid’s nine-point plan, published last night, will also see family doctors offered an extra £250million to improve their services and fight through the backlog. The Health Secretary (left) defended the plans, in a round of interviews this morning. Official data shows the number of face-to-face appointments has dropped since the pandemic began (top right), with some surgeries struggling to return to face-to-face appointments.

Dear GP’s get off your backsides and earn your pay. Stop treating patients like an inconvenience and do the job you are supposed to do

Iron Warrior October 15, 2021 - 12:31 AM

Regardless of what MPs say, there’s no excuse now for not seeing patients face to face. Enough of this Covid nonsense, we actually do need to return to normal.

Very odd the GP's NEVER spoke out about the purchase and use of tens of thousands of boxes of rhe drug MIDAZOLAM by the Government in early 2020 to be used to treat tjose in care homes with COVID ( a Respiratory disease ) and other respiratory illnesses …when one of the SIDE EFFECTS of MIDAZOLAM in repeated use IS RESPIRATORY DEPRESSION leading to death !!!!!

Very odd GP's NEVER spoke out about the criminal and fraudulent manipulation of the PCR TEST being used outside its design at 45ct/cycles to ramp up the numbers of FALSE POSITIVES which were then claimed as Positivesfor COVID-19

This GP is lying. Health care assistants and nurses in surgeries have been seeing patients throughout this debacle. GP's have been doing less and less work every year for decades. They pass everything on to nurses and health care assistants. Get rid of them all.

There is a lot of vital information about someone's health being missed in a phone call. Like appearance of the skin, is the patient out of breath?, what is their temperature and heart rate? etc. This is basic stuff being bypassed. Moreover, the public is paying for a service that they are not receiving and being told to wait for weeks for an appointment and months for treatment. In other European countries, the doctor is proactive and calls the patient to tell them to come in and get an annual check.

I actually took my complaints to the NHS complaint Dept who then go onto my GP. 45mins to get phone answered by GP, then no appouintments for 2 weeks, if urgent you can phone first thing and TRY to get an appointment and even then it is only a telephone appointment. Today I had my GP's response, in the letter they totally contradict themselves, they say they are offering the CHOICE of Face to face or virtual/telepehone and in the next paragraph they say face to face will only be provided if it is deemed clinically necessary! So which is it???!!! Even they cant make up their minds. Its an absolute mess!

Jonathan Smythe October 15, 2021 - 1:03 AM

Doctors & their surgeries have abandoned patient care, & hidden behind closed doors for two years. Its no wonder the public are ANGRY.
Asthma checks over the phone ffs. It is laughable. If it wasn't tragic.

jhjhjhjhjhjhify October 15, 2021 - 1:03 AM

I'm no fan of Javid but I have a lot of sympathy for patients who have been negatively affected by Covid restrictions, as well as the fact that too many of these consultations are still being done over the phone. Basic stuff can be missed. Honestly, I think Javid and the government are well within their rights to push GPs to have more face to face interactions with patients. I want Doctors to be able to do their jobs and provide high quality health care, but these people need to understand what a lot of patients have gone through, and how Covid hasn't caused much of these problems but exasperated them.

My 87 year old mother GP sent out a hospital appointment letter with a 2p stamp on it, we had to pay £1.50 before the postman would deliver…hence to say she missed her appointment. Another occassion I took her to a hospital appointment, she is wheelchair bound, she had to get undressed etc, once we got into the consultants room they told us her appointment was a mistake and she should not be there!

No the Conservative since the beginning of Austerity are to blame, and Boris Johson lying about the NHS actually started the fire, but its time for Doctors to meet patients face to face, I suffer from a lot of very bad health issues, I never call my GP surgery unless it's really serious especially when I'm in agony, unfortunately it's well known fact that GP surgery staff will use any excuse to avoid making you an appointment, they'll suggest you ask for help from a pharmacist's or go to you local walking centre, or even go to your local hospitals overcrowded A&E department, I have been told downright lies in a attempt to make me wait for hours and sometimes days and weeks for medical help, they tell you your on the sick and we are short staffed or you Doctors on holiday, on one occasions the staff lied to me saying my Doctor wasn't at my GP surgery, but I knew he was there, I later made a complaint to the manager of the surgery, but nothing was done in fact he suggested I was mistaken or I inferred it was me who was lying, I later made a complaint to NHS England, but they just past the buck back to my Surgeries manager, I was shocked when I received a letter from my GP surgery saying they were taken me off their panel, this from people who are supposed to be a caring profession, I don't care who's is to blame, you don't use seriously ill people as a pawn.

Michael October 15, 2021 - 1:20 AM

People can,t see a GP , so go to A&E blocking up Hospitals. £100,000 q year for doing F/A
