Police chief on leave after Texas school shooting – BBC News

by Moin Uddin Ahmed Tipu

A police chief accused of botching the response to the fatal shooting of 19 school children and two teachers in Uvalde, Texas, has been put on leave.

Pedro “Pete” Arredondo, head of the school district police force, has been blamed for law enforcement delays in confronting the gunman.

Defending his actions, the 50-year-old has said he did not think he was the official in charge at the time.

Had no radio. Did not know he has uni with rifles and a shield ready to go. Did not know kids and teachers calling in 911 for help. Didnt check the door and wilted under pressure killing victims. He was taught 2 weeks ago that active shooter must be stopped/ highest priority…..not waiting. Needs to resign immediately

On the one hand, police are often feckless and terrible at their jobs, and that's when they're not the ones shooting people. On the other hand, gun-loving righties are going to focus the blame on the cops' insufficient training and response to deflect it away from the actual problem. 🙄 Remember old utopian sci-fi movies where there are no weapons and cops spend most of their time getting kittens out of trees like firemen? Gun-nuts don't want that, they'd rather cops have to deal with armed people.

This is typical of the people in positions of authority that are incompetent. We have this in the military, CIA, Presidents and prime ministers, defense department officials ect..Is there any real wonder why people have an absolute disgust with authoritarian figures. Who on one hand propose their brilliance only to lie to everyone hoping nobody will figure out their stupidity and exorbitant salaries. Look at the US government officials
