In June 1981, the CDC published its first medical report on what would become known as AIDS. 40 years later, discrimination based on decades of stigma persists despite advancements in treatments and prognosis for a virus initially thought of as a death sentence.

it literally breaks my heart, because my father passed in 95 when i was a child of AIDS and if he could have made it another year he may have been able to live though it. im so glad that so many people can live full lives now

I remember when the world only thought homosexuals could contract AIDS, and few in power took the disease seriously, but when heterosexual was founded to contract the disease a world wide campaign began. Too bad people discriminated for so long, I’m glad everyone is being helped.

I've been HIV Positive for almost 15 now. I've been on meds since 09. I now test undetectable. HIV/AIDS is no longer a death sentence. Many of my friends died in the 80's of AIDS. Too bad they didn't have the outstanding care that I've received.
