Nadhim Zahawi says caution is needed to enable June 21st reopenings

The vaccines minister has urged people to keep doing their bit to ensure the roadmap out of lockdown can stay on track, amid surging cases of the Indian variant.

Surge testing is underway is areas with a rise in cases and Nadhim Zahawi urged residents in those towns to take advantage of testing facilities and vaccine invitations.

Bolton’s infection rate has doubled in the past week and currently sits at 152 cases per 100,000 people – the second highest in the country after Erewash in Derbyshire. Other surges have been identified in parts of London and Merseyside.
