Labour 'supports the right to strike'

by News Update

Shadow Climate Change Minister Kerry McCarthy has said Labour supports “the right to strike”.

She said: “Our general line is that we support the right to strike and if unions have balloted their members and taken a democratic decision to go on strike, they’re well within their rights to do that.

“We also think it’s right for MPs to go out and talk to the people they represent, which is what Lisa Nandy was doing this week.”

Ms McCarthy also called comments made by Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg about Nicola Sturgeon “juvenile” and said that it isn’t a constructive way to build a relationship.

Didn’t they sack one of their own people for supporting a strike?

Right to strike is a staple of a free democracy regardless of how annoying it is. Other than people glueing themselves to the road, they are a genuine menace.

Scrapping VAT on energy? That's not going to cover the price of a hot bath come October. Never forget, in the midst of a cost of living crises, both parties think we should get poorer

Labour?? What Labour? This is a Blarite New Labor Mk2. Center right tory shills. Starmer has destroyed labour. Exactly as the elite planned for starmer. He's lost 200,000 members since Corbyn, but they'll just ignore it because their job is simoly to prop up the tories, occupy the opposition place while not offering any opposition, and not let left wing voices be heard in parliament.

Brenda Sg1 August 2, 2022 - 5:25 PM

But only while the tories are in charge

The British wealthy know too well if the working class receive fairer liveable wages it will have to paid for by Britain's wealthy, and rightly so. When oil companies are making more profit now in this cost-of-living crisis they have inflated the price of fuel far above what was needed, and the same goes for most retailers. Consumers are facing a cost-of-living crisis which is affecting millions of British families whose wages never kept up with inflation for almost 40 years. Our government created this problem starting with Thatcher and has continued to the present day. These strikes should be fully supported by all working class people if they are going to have any chance of receiving the wages they deserve. These strikes are not aimed at companies or small businesses that are not making huge profits, proper taxation is needed to subsidise wages for these businesses. Anyone working for the likes of Amazon should not need their wages bumped up by the state, Amazon should be forced to pay its workers more from their profits the same goes for all businesses with huge profits. I hope if Starmer and Labour win the general election they will deal with the numerous unfair systems that the Tory party assisted.

Jim Vash August 2, 2022 - 8:36 PM

So why is Starmer AWOL then…liar

John Doe August 2, 2022 - 8:37 PM

Of course they'll support anything ANYTHING that's anti government.. that's what they do…forget about the rest of the population ..labour don't care when their sole mission is, just as SNPs wee Nicolas, to disrupt government by using the population as pawns and who cares about collateral damage.

Dale Benton August 2, 2022 - 8:50 PM

Labour Party wont get back in ever again,They are finished for good

Earnest Equivocation August 2, 2022 - 9:57 PM

The point here surely, is that in a democracy, it is a right?!
Patel is yrying to ban demonstrations and the cheese brained Minford puppet is trying to ban unions. They’re more extreme that Militant Tendency or Momentum!
