High fire danger leads to safety power shutoffs in Southern California

As strong Santa Ana winds whip through the area, power companies carried out electricity shutoffs as a last resort attempt to prevent downed power lines from sparking more wildfires.

70-80 MPH isnโ€™t much. The grid should be designed to deal with this. This should not be a question of when to shut off power, but it should be a question of what the design limits are.
