A vaccine is not effective after discovery. A vaccine is only effective if people are willing to take the shot. So, roll up your sleeves people and call yourself scientific marvels by letting the vaccine do its work. Get vaccinated. Sooner we all do, sooner we will all get back to normalcy and recovery including economic. You want your job back don't cha?!

Hartcore11 May 9, 2021 - 11:01 PM

I actually want a market correction. The current market stock prices are artificially inflated.

That "BOOM" is the sound of the economy crashing under the Biden regime.

Di&Ce May 9, 2021 - 11:03 PM

Hyperinflation could cause the economy to stall out.🤪 food prices have almost doubled since last year.

Taking away promised federal unemployment benefits from people?!? All because a SC governor wants a cheeseburger?? Trying to force educated middle-aged people into minimum wage jobs not gonna cut it. Raise minimum wage before you start cutting unemployment or else complete fail.

The "boom" will last about a month. Then reality will set in. Theres an asset bubble in every corner of the economy. One will crash and bring them all down. Come back in 6 months Fareed and lets hear more about your "boom". The people on the streets have a different take on it, and we, as usual, will suffer the most.

I'm afraid Mr Zakaria will be right again. I had wished for an economic reckoning, instead it'll be more of the same. Musk and Bezos will be relieved…

Using the current trajectory as an indicator; I predict a cyber pandemic hyper inflation and a collapse of the dollar.

Jerry Marasco May 9, 2021 - 11:15 PM

Typical CNN reporting. Despite a poor jobs report, Fareek knows better. Another typical assumption by CNN. With Quid Pro Joes taxes and regulations people are afraid to spend. We all know we’ll be paying more at the pump ( we already are) and paying more for basic products ( we already are )

H o t r e t a r d e d c h i X May 9, 2021 - 11:15 PM

I hope you're right

Vincent Thibeault May 9, 2021 - 11:17 PM

I hope you are right Mr Zakaria. Here in Canada, we seem to be going backwards. In many provinces, restaurants and other businesses that cater to the public have been forced to close. Again.

Jose Mercado May 9, 2021 - 11:17 PM

You don't have to a rocket scientist to know that

MrPathorock May 9, 2021 - 11:18 PM

Stop pretending an economist. Boom is nothing but hyperinflation

Ralph Boyd May 9, 2021 - 11:19 PM

Later this year will be great, if we can get the paranoid cranks to take their medicine and get vaccinated.

Boom back to August 2019 where the economy was failing to begin with.. The FED was pumping QE into the system back then to keep the markets from failing. Now we have MASSIVE debt, so I don't expect much.

william woo May 9, 2021 - 11:21 PM

Thanks. Fareed, you are right. We human learn from our mistakes. It’s how we progress. one step backward and two steps forward = progress not always pretty

Maverick May 9, 2021 - 11:23 PM

You mean Build Back Better right Fareed? We know where this is heading, CBDC. That’s why Joke Byedone is causing massive inflation and devaluing the dollar. This is all part of the Great Reset/New World Order plan. Fuck outta here.

Ralf Nator May 9, 2021 - 11:24 PM

Fareed thought going into Iraq was a good idea…
So, should we expect the costs of healthcare, housing, groceries, etc. to go down? Yeah, there's already been a boom. Look at the stock market. But for who?

John Coloe May 9, 2021 - 11:26 PM

While vaccines are indeed absolutely wonderful, we must keep in mind that their touted efficacy related to protection of the individual from serious infection-related illness. While initial data look promising, further study is required to determine the degree to which vaccines a) prevent infection, as well as b) shedding of the virus that can lead to ongoing transmission.

This is why continued social distancing and mask wearing remain advised.

The developed world bears a responsibility to ensure vaccination of those in the developing world. Not only is it true that no one is safe until every one is safe, but economic resurgence in first world countries will only exacerbate economic disparities elsewhere. This will have the effect of further instability across wide swaths of the world's population.

Lastly, future pandemics. While SARS-Cov-2 is referred to as a "100 year event," that doesn't mean that just as deadly an outbreak couldn't occur next year, or the year after that, or the year after that.

Here again, developed nations must show leadership; funding preparatory measures internally, as well as cooperation with the WHO. Surveillance, identification, isolation and publicity are key to mitigating the worst effects of future pandemics.

John Norris May 9, 2021 - 11:26 PM

Productivity has a stronger link to motivation than technology. If a person wants to be better they will try harder to succeed not because they have Zoom loaded on their cell phone. I expect there to be an uptick for a while but then as people's expectations settle in they will go back to being underwhelming.

Michael Stineman May 9, 2021 - 11:27 PM

Here you go Fareed and liberals heres your lying president..oh I know but Trump did….etc..I don't give a flying f..k. Rationalize this.
