EU leaders' summit: European heads of state gather to discuss the bloc's Brexit stance

Brexit has been high on the agenda in the first of two days of EU summit in Brussels.
Several EU leaders acknowledged that little progress has been made in post-Brexit trade talks — despite today being UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s self-imposed deadline to reach an agreement.

The bloc’s leaders are looking to strike a deal by the end of the month. BUT the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said deep divisions remain over two key issues.

The eu think they are the most important market of the world but the uk have a lot of choices. Inactualfact the eu was dragged backward by less than half a dozen countries while the rest merely lazy followers that as good as merely vassal states of just colonies

I like how they asked we follow eu regulations but say we can't vote on them.

There no ‘question of the fisheries’…they’re U.K. waters…end of!

This crazy woman does not realise that with no deal she loses both things totally and for ever, whereas if they work with fishing licences and normal international trade negotiations, as the UK signs up with trade deals around the world with everyone including the EU, she may get much of what she wants! How thick are these people.

It seems England is betting pretty hard on a deal. Nearly 5 years now. When are they finally going?

The level playing field is something we can not accept in any way, shape or form. We can not give the EU any control over us whatsoever.

WITH NO DEAL WE GET VICTORY…… NO DEAL LIKE………. THIS IS THE END OF EUROPEAN UNION MACARON PUT HIS OWN SHYT TO HIS OWN PLATE. NOW HE HAS TO EAT HIS OWN SHYT…. NO DEAL IS BETTER THAN ANYTHING…

We need the EU to follow our regulations, our courts have complete oversight of the EU and we demand the Swedish waters as our own. We aren't asking for much. These are our sticking points. Agree to this deal or we will fine you via the UK courts (who always rule in our favour). We are negotiating in good faith. You are being unreasonable. We will bailout all of our companies but will rule that no other EU member will be allowed to do the same.

The very things they are asking of us, will keep us tied to the EU forever. A level playing field is to give eu control over our industry and who we trade with. Level playing field and state aid we must reject! It will be the ending of us as a sovereign nation. We might as well have not bothered with Brexit if Boris signs us up for all these restrictions. We must leave NOW!

The EU is essentially Germany and twenty odd spear carriers. Why don't the rest just pipe down and let Britain and Germany sort it out?

Little progress as allways because they have to have a different opinion. Now popular saying is faireness and the famous Polish Foreign Affairs Minister Bem's saying towards Hitler and Nazi Germany "peace but not at all costs".
As I understand, if there was no equality and unfaireness towards the UK while in the EU, there have to be some priviledges for the UK in order to make up to this country for damages that were done by the EU. Unfair is keeping an impression that faireness has nothing to do with compensations for ruining. UK deserves better treatment and compensation for decades of dealing with it in bad faith.
Why can't this organization have an honest face and clean hands. Why does'nt understand that makes collosal mistakes and is unable to listen to the people, effectively lead, decide, punish, award, prevent, defend, comply, respect who deserves, repair or simply make all people hired work effectively for the money they earn. Why does'nt have the ambitions of building something more valuable than its belly, cooperate, unite and not betray over and over again…above all the old good Allies.

You need proof this EU is a failed institution? Just watch these greedy prima donnas squabbling and trying to put the interest of their own voters before the collective interest of this so called union. How could you possibly want to be in a EU together with a Macron and a Merkel or make a deal with people like these?

  25. Avatar

What about Level-playing field that EU do not have with Canada and other countries

  26. Avatar

Boris Johnson has to walk away and tear up the withdrawal agreement, the EU has never negotiated in good faith. They ignored his deadline to prove that they are in charge, if he doesn't walk away they have won and will get whatever they want.
It will mark the end of Boris Johnson's political career.

WE ARE MANY MANY EU CUTIZENS WHO WANT UK TO MAKE NO DEAL.
AND WE WANT THE GERMAN/FRENCH EU ALLIANCES TO BE CLOSED COMPLETELY DOWN TOGETHER WITH THE WHOE EU CIRCUS.
    — Mr. Boris Johnson, don't make a deal. Or DON'T YOU NOT DARE TO GO AGAINST THE EU POWER —
Be sure that this IS ONLY BEGINNING, FIRST THEY WANT THE UK FISHING WATER, LATER THEY WANT MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE, THAT YOU CAN BE SURE OF.
Like what is inside the French Fishing boat, illegal immigrants, for instance, drugs or what else??? Don't do it mr. Johnson do not trus the German and the French, have we not yet learn what German is able to, under the 1st and 2nd world wars?????

There has never been a trade deal on offer from the EU. They have only ever wanted a Political Deal where EU has control. They have shown all along that they are only interested in curtailing the UK's interests. Don't waste your time – walk away.
