How Chili Peppers Work

“The heat in chili peppers is called pungency, and it comes from a group of compounds called capsaicinoids.”

“Capsaicin is a natural chemical isolated from red peppers. It is most often found in animal repellents but some products kill mites and insects or keep them from feeding on plants.”

Prehistoric man had a taste for spicy food

“Prehistoric man liked spicy food as much as modern curry lovers, according to a study which found traces of mustard in 6,000-year-old pottery.”

Hottest Chili

“The hottest chilli is the Trinidad Scorpion “Butch T” which was grown by The Chilli Factory (Australia) and rated at 1,463,700 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) according to tests conducted by EML Consulting Services in Morisset, New South Wales, Australia, on 1 March 2011.”

NMSU’s Chile Pepper Institute names the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion hottest pepper on earth
“When it comes to bringing the heat, there’s a new king of the hill. According to a first-of-its-kind scientific study on “super-hot” chile varieties, New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute has identified the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion as the new hottest pepper on the planet.”

Love hot foods, hate hot sauce (the vinegar base is disgusting).  I'll take a hot curry any day over hot sauce.

The SECRET for a pepper to be healthy as here being described is to eat it while its still raw(still tasteful), adding chemistry makes them lose all of their properties and brings stomach aches. From experience here.

My grandpa couldn't handle spiciness. Sometimes he'd be overwhelmed and heave as if his face is being literally burned. He feels that it's much much much too hot, while the rest of us couldn't even taste the faintest hint of spiciness. Sometimes I think he's just pretending to be so to skip the meal that he doesn't like and eat something else, he's too nice to say that he doesn't like the meal.
