There have now been at least eight locally acquired covid-19 cases in New South Wales since Tuesday – a worrying development, after the state had gone 12 days without recording a positive test outside hotel quarantine.
It’s also emerged a student at Macquarie University in the city’s north-west has tested positive for COVID-19 – raising fears of a third cluster.
The new cases could see a delay in Queensland’s plans to re-open its border with New South Wales.
Meanwhile, Victoria’s timetable for easing restrictions has been cast into doubt by a rise in mystery cases.
