Israelis on Sunday sent best wishes and their support to U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania after the couple tested positive for COVID-19.
Roughly 17 hours after he made his diagnosis public on Friday, Trump walked slowly from the White House to a waiting helicopter to be taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.
In the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, residents sent the couple wishes of recovery. In the background, a huge billboard was hanging with Donald and Melania Trump’s photo and the writing “God Bless You.”
The banner was put up by a supporter of the Republican party before the president’s announcement of his illness, said chairman of the party in Israel, Marc Zell. But the timing coincided with support of the president as he fights the disease, he added.
The diagnosis was the latest setback for the Republican president, who is trailing Democratic rival Joe Biden in opinion polls ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election.
