One day after Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden won a TV ratings battle with US. President Donald Trump as the two held competing town halls with voters, Biden focused his campaign in Michigan on health care, blaming Trump for the increase in COVID-19 cases.
Biden said Trump’s his failure to embrace and encourage use of masks could cost another 100,000 Americans to die in the coming months.
Just weeks ahead of the Nov. 3 election, the vote has centered not only on the president’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, but on health care. With many Americans relying on employer-based health care coverage, job losses often cause subsequent losses in insurance coverage.
Biden promoted his health care plan, which he says will build on the Affordable Care Plan to give Americans what he calls a “Medicare-like public option” while increasing federal subsidies.
During his Thursday’s event on ABC, Biden attacked Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. On NBC, Trump defended his administration’s response to the virus and his own personal conduct.
Trump won Michigan in the 2016 presidential race by less than 1/4 of a percentage point over Hillary Clinton.
