Chancellor accused of “playing catch-up” as he pledges billions more in economic support – BBC News

The Chancellor has pledged billions of pounds more support for workers and businesses across the UK after he accepted that even those not forced to shut were facing “profound economic uncertainty”.

Rishi Sunak backdated support for many businesses in an apparent admission that earlier support for those facing coronavirus restrictions had not gone far enough. Many companies said the announcement had come too late as fears grow of mass job losses.

Businesses in the Tier 2 category had complained they were in a worse position, with less support, than those in the highest risk areas which have been told to close.

Under the new Treasury rules employers will pay less to support part-time staff — and more workers will be eligible for government support.

Employees will have to work at least 20% of their normal hours – as little as one day a week – in order to take home about three-quarters of their pay.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by political editor Laura Kuenssberg, economics editor Faisal Islam and Sarah Corker in Manchester.

The Governments Covid response has cost around £250bn thus far (£8,500 per taxpayer)
The total UK debt has gone up to over £2 Trillion (or about £75,000 per taxpayer). NOW THIS….

Average age of Covid 19 deaths = 82
Average life expectancy in UK = 81.15

COVID-19 INFECTION SURVIVAL RATES (per CDC)
    Ages 0-19: 99.997%
    Ages 20-49: 99.98%
    Ages 50-69: 99.5%
    Ages 70+: 94.6%
Seasonal Flu Infection Survival Rate (for population as a whole): 99.90%

Useless tests (even the inventor says they're not fit for this type diagnosis).
No sign of a vaccine. No guarantee of a vaccine (common cold, HIV, ineffective flu vax etc.).
No end in sight unless we choose the Swedish approach.

Protect the vulnerable and end these lockdowns

All very well but its spending yet more again. None of it is for free its got to be paid for. We can't keep going through this cycle it does not work and the cure is worse than the cause. When are we going to accept the facts, the virus is here, a vaccine just a slim chance, so where are we going to end up. Its time to face it there needs to be a bit of carnage, this just can't continue. The media need to stop their scare propaganda as well.

(Taken from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change TBIGC Ltd website)
    summary, governments should:

Implement a mobility credential linked to a secure and user-centric digital identity to allow the safe reopening of close-proximity spaces.

Adopt a secure and user-centric model of digital identity that puts individuals in control and protects their privacy. (🐂💩) For users this would most likely mean a biometrically secured app on their phone that stores digital credentials.

Create a platform to securely issue credentials based on test results. For example, someone would present their digital ID when being tested; a unique credential based on their results would then be sent to their app.

Agree internationally interoperable standards for credentials so that they can be widely recognised by a range of organisations. When required, users would present a mobility credential on their app to be scanned and verified.

Set out a technical, legal and liability framework for identity providers, credential-issuing parties (e.g. testing labs) and verifiers to accelerate delivery.

Set the right framework for how credentials are used in practice, in order to secure broad-based public support.

For public settings, enforce access based on a mobility credential in the highest-risk settings first, e.g. care homes and airports. As rapid point-of-use tests become more available, credential-based access can become more widespread.

If your grandmother has cancer, they will happily deny her treatment and let her die. But, to protect her from a virus she'll most likely survive, they’ll bankrupt the country? Really? BS. These people are criminals.

If the UK would allow me in from the US, I would spend a lot of money there. I live in a place with 9 covid cases/100,000 pop. Seems like I should be safe especially since I've been in full lockdown and quarantine since March. It's just sad.

Until you manage the health of the people, the economy will never recover. Victoria in Australia had it tough for months and took the tough decision. No mention of utility companies playing their part. If you can manage income then look at costs
