Kosovo head coach Bernard Challandes joked that the only way to stop Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling is to ‘break his leg’ – before adding that his team are ‘too nice’ to resort to such tactics.
Challandes’ side come up against England on Sunday and are likely to face Sterling, who played no part in the 7-0 rout of Montenegro following his off-pitch confrontation with Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.
Gomez has since withdrawn from the England squad after an accidental collision with Kieran Trippier in training on Friday. Kosovo’s 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic on Thursday means they must rely on the play-offs to qualify for their first major tournament.
