They forgot to mention how freaking expensive it is to install the solar power and its maintenance cost.

I live on St. Croix, USVI which has the highest electric rates in the USA & the grid is terribly dirty & unreliable (very common for people's appliances to get fried…I lost a brand new microwave after 3 months)…My $38k (including installation) system, thanks to the tax credit, will pay for itself in 4 years. I'm a year in with ZERO maintenance costs so far. You have to do the math for your particular situation. I'll save enough by the time my system needs to be replaced to pay for it & still have money left over. Once they finally get their new net metering program going, my ROI time will decrease & I'll save even more money.
