This won’t be a widespread outbreak. Legionnaires' disease does not spread from human to human. It usually spreads from cooling systems in buildings that somehow contract the bacteria. Also sadly, mostly elderly and immuno-compromised are affected

Jessie Ray August 4, 2022 - 1:40 PM

Ugh, people 🤦
Legionnaires' disease is NOT spread person to person. It can only be caught by breathing in water mist containing the bacteria.
Typically a commercial large building AC system is too blame. So like office buildings, restaurants, hotels and hospitals.
But even a dirty shower head or a water heater maintained below 140° can hold this bacteria causing illness.

It's a very easy bacteria to get rid of. Temperature as low as 140° begins to slowly 💀 the bacteria while 160° rapidly 💀 it. Chlorine also 💀 it.

I am a plumber. We got literature from the state of Oregon telling us that stagnant water will not cause leave your parents but a hot water heater will if the water heaters temperature is set too low l o w legioners will form into water heater. I have a customer who is actually a nurse she contacted legionaris she was in the hospital 2 weeks I went to her house her water was was barely hot I turned up the temperature they tell us the state to turn up the temperature to 160 to 180 to burn out the legionnaires that's what I did

Dvach August 4, 2022 - 1:55 PM

They have next to no licensing for plumbers in California, so not really suprised. Happens in Texas as well because of the relaxed licensing there

Charles Hall August 4, 2022 - 1:56 PM

Back in the seventies the first time it hit I remember the legionnaires convention whom it is named after a dozen died they tracked it down to the cooling system that the swamp cooler

Charles Hall August 4, 2022 - 1:58 PM

When I say stagnant water I am only talking about water in the water pipes I am told we can drink it without any harm the water heater was what caused the legionners you take a shower and you breathe it in I suspected Brittany Murphy died from legionnaires and then her boyfriend died a month later from the same thing I was told by the state of Oregon that's missed diagnosed at almost every day in the United States as pneumonia

Ryan Gibson August 4, 2022 - 2:00 PM

Wow, this happened in the 60's at a building somewhere back east. It was caused by the cooler water. Crazy that they don't treat the water.
