How Daredevils Work

“Going over Niagara Falls in a barrel, being shot from a cannon, walking on a tightrope high above a city street — no one can dispute that daredevils captivate the public.”

“Today, an airplane in Andalusia. The University of Houston’s College of Engineering presents this series about the machines that make our civilization run, and the people whose ingenuity created them.”

Nik Wallenda: King of the High Wire

“On June 15, 2012, high wire artist Nik Wallenda joined the ranks of legendary daredevils when he became the first person ever to walk across the roaring Niagara Falls on a two-inch steel wire.”

Evel Knievel: An American Icon

“From his humble roots in the unlikely town of Butte, MT, Knievel rode his motorcycle and guts to an unparalleled level of worldwide glory and fame, much of which he still carries with him today: King of the Daredevils, The Last of the Gladiators, The Godfather of Extreme Sports, Guinness Book of Records holder for the most bones broken, an unwavering optimist, a doer, a go-getter, self-promoter extraordinaire, media genius, an enigmatic folk hero — an American legend.”

There are half a dozen Evel closes from the seventies that died crashing and burning, usually at some podunk back woods carney fair. It was a huge racquet back in those days. They all wore the same outfit as Evel and did his same routine. Evel died an old man, guys like Super Joe ate shit and paid the ultimate price to be second rate.
